Couture often feels like some attractive parallel universe. The silhouettes are exaggerated and the attention to detail is otherworldly. It's exciting, it can be obscure but luckily for us, no couture look is complete without an equally great accessory.
Because wearing a 15-foot train and matching diamond encrusted tiara to work isn't totally viable, we've noted some of our favourite trends from the Fall 16 Couture collections. Looks you can work into real life.
Heart of Gold
Metallics, intricate beading and ornate details were seen on almost every look on the Elie Saab runway. The jewels were just as magnificent, notably a pair of large heart-shaped gold earrings that hinted at a bigger trend to come.
Glittering Chokers:
Giambattisa Valli and Alexandre Vauthier presented the fitted necklaces in wildly different ways. At Valli's show, a delicate diamond choker was spotted with ruffles, sweet flower bud prints and empire waistlines (yes, apparently they're back). Vauthier preferred a stronger stance; leather-on-leather was accompanied by a large sparkling
neck piece.
Super Size Your Hoops
Earrings that could knockout an unassuming passerby were hot in the Couture Fall collections. Both Atelier Versace and Armani Privé sent out shoulder grazing crystal options while John Galliano had hoops made out of carved wood for Maison Margiela Artisanal.
Luxe Cuffs
Stacks of shiny bracelets and cuffs were the accessory of choice for many of Alexandre Vauthier's creations. Our favourite had to be when they were paired with a baggy brown leather zip up jumpsuit, evocative of a glam military para-jumper.
