Runway to Real-life: FW18 earring mini trends
Not so long ago the humble stud didn't have a lot of competition from the not so modest statement earring. It was only the brave, the Italians or die-hard fans of statements jewels who dared to wear anything bigger than a sleeper without the fear of looking too "overdone".
Fast forward a few years, and most fashion lovers don't feel their look is complete without a pair of hoops, shoulder dusters or clip on's. Their skyrocketing appeal in the past two years has meant earrings have topped the jewellery category for most online fashion stores. The statement earring has not been this universally popular with women of all ages since the 1970's and 80's, and their appeal is still set to rise.
The current Fall and Winter season was proof enough. Both on and off the runway earrings adorned models, the front row and Instagram stars alike. For us, we're not so interested in accessories worn with "please take my photo?" looks but how the understated style set wear theirs- looks we can emulate at work, on a date or for lunch with the girls.
So here we track two mini-trends taken from the runway and worn on the street during fashion month.
Big and Gold
Gold earrings have cemented their place in the everygirl's jewellery box due to their ability to go with everything. Show-goers went big and bold this season pairing shoulder-dusting earrings with their favourite outerwear or knits.
H&M tip: Pair yours with weekend hair or a tricked up pony à la Caroline Daur.
Not your Grandmas Pearls
Pearl earrings have been refreshed and reworked by designers and are adorning ears again from Paris to New York. They have quickly become the most popular jewel to move from the runway to real life in the past season a mini-trend that has been embraced by the stylish, smart girl set worldwide.
