In Focus: Pearl Wonder
The Olympia Cypriot Earrings. Shop here.
Formed within the shell of a pearl oyster, they are a highly prized gem - so valued have they been in history, that pearl jewels were often buried with their owners.
While it isn't known exactly when or how the first pearl was discovered, there are many legends surrounding this mythical stone. Believed to be the tears of the gods according to Ancient Greek mythology, they also symbolise generosity, integrity and loyalty - perhaps why they are often worn by brides on their special day (and a wonderful gift idea, if you or someone you love has impending nuptials on the horizon).
Beautiful Baroque pearls before they are transformed into our Olympia Babette Ring.
In ancient Asian cultures, the pearl also represented the journey of the soul or spirit along the path to perfection. The smooth wholeness and seemingly “magical” appearance of pearls in lifeforms as plain as oysters indicated the presence of divinity.
