Let’s take a moment to consider pale washes of colour. Those shades which lift our complexion and are a welcome antidote to winter’s dark wardrobe tendencies.
Fall 2016 collections have confirmed that this is more than a minor occasion in fashion. Here is the proof: In Milan, Alessandro Micheles, who recently celebrated a year of Creative Directorship of Gucci, presented an all-in-one bubblegum pink look, complete with faux fur coat, matching sheer tights and a cross body chain link bag. Pink overload for some, outfit perfection for others in a Clueless x The Royal Tenenbaums kind of way.
London high street label Shrimps further enforced our stance that real fur is out and Barbie-coloured faux fuzz is where it’s at. Miu Miu contributed to the pastel cause too with powder blue shirting paired with a flamingo patched denim jacket and strings of pearls. Style note: pearls are the key accessory to pair with such shades right now. Veer away from sorority girl and channel a modern day Marie Antoinette or Lolita instead.
And then there was Balmain. In the brand’s Fall 2016 show, Olivier Rousteing overtly revealed his love for Kim Kardashian West with a padded bubble miniskirt and head-to-toe monochrome outfits in icy grey, pale pink and beige. Love or hate her, the woman knows how to get in the head of the fashion set.
